Digital SLR Camera and the Art of Photography

The Art Of PhotographWith the advent of digital photography, most individuals have shifted to digital cameras leaving their old film cameras behind. There are so many advantages that digital photography has over film photography that it is only a matter of time and budget before all the film camera users shift to digital cameras. On your digital camera, you can check out photos as soon as you capture them, edit them for achieving better quality and also do so much more once you upload it on your computer. The fact is that film photography has now become a technology of yesterday and digital photography is the technology today.

An excellent SLR camera can cost you as much or even more than a car! But they also will capture the best photos that you can ever imagine. The high price will depend on the configuration of the DSLR though. A modern DSLR camera will have a sensor that is at least 8 or 10 mega pixel and the higher the mega pixel counts on a Digital Single Lens Reflex camera, the larger the print size can be. These mega pixels will also be a factor in the pricing of the camera.

The optical zoom is also a very big determinant of the price tag of a particular model of DSLR camera. Optical zoom is the actual protrusion of the lens to magnify the view, unlike digital zoom which only crops the image to frame a particular position of the view. Optical zoom will never result in low quality pictures but a digital zoom will result in pictures of inferior quality. A DSLR camera can provide you with at least a 3x optical zoom that is without additional lenses.

The lenses are the costliest, most important and best parts of a Digital SLR camera. They allow you to shoot anything from the far away sky to the tiniest insects. Firstly, there are the telescopic lenses which allow you to take shots of subjects and objects which you can not reach close enough, like the moon or a far away cliff top. Secondly, the contrasting macro lenses, which allow you to come in close to objects that are invisible to the naked eye and picture them in their full detail. The third type of lenses are called wide-angle lens and they are used to capture subjects of large proportions, like a landscape.

After you have bought your first DSLR camera, it is time to practice and experiment. Keep your hand steady and use a tripod when capturing images that require absolute stillness. Focusing is very important, if you are using manual focusing, then take your time while focusing on your desired portion of the frame and then lock the portion by half pressing the shutter button down. Do not be shy to take more than just a few shots and check them on the LCD of your DSLR to understand what is lacking and what you need to do in order to bring out that exact perfection you want out of your digital photography.
